IDIOM is a circus sci-fi story that mixes opera and acrobatics. It is about empathy, community and artificial intelligence. The story asks which are the most important aspects of being human that we want to imbue into artificial intelligence that we are creating.

It is set a near future setting where a group of humans stem off and try to live without AI technology, only to discover that the technology is the only thing keeping them falling apart.

It is a 6 person indoor show which first premiered in 2019. Because of its themes and physical languages, it exists at the very cutting edge of contemporary circus.

MORE INFORMATION

IDIOM is both visually stunning and physically mind-blowing!

Set in a time after technology has devastated the Earth, a curious human and a near sentient Artificial attempt to question a society that solely worships human connection and demonises technology.

After the desecration of the Earth by an AI arms race, we set our story in one surviving human community, the Haven, in which empathy is worshipped as the defining human value and dependency on AI is despised.

However, a dangerous question beckons, "what if an artificial could empathise better than we can?"

“IDIOM” digs deeply into how our creations reflect our own humanity and delves into some of the most difficult questions facing us about AI today.

Why we are creating this new technology?

What do we want it to become?

If AI outlives us, what do we want our legacy to be?

The show is an interdisciplinary feat combining exquisite aerial acrobatics, opera and sci-fi theatre with visually striking design and intimate storytelling.

6 actors. Two halves.100 min of poignant acrobatic storytelling.
